We’ve curated a list of fun family Christmas activities and holiday themed ideas to keep your kids from bouncing off the walls as well as your sanity when extended family travels into town. While it’s a full time job keeping everyone entertained until their holiday hearts are content, it’s important to take time for yourself even if it’s a quiet moment in the car after morning drop off. We have some ideas for finding peace during this busy time of year, so keep reading for all the inspo. below.
Passing down family traditions is one of our favorite ways to make feel good memories that are equally nostalgic and special. From Christmas cookie recipes to hand making tamales and decorating gingerbread houses, there are so many ways to preserve these traditions for your kids to look forward to year after year, and also make new ones with your immediate family. If you are searching for more ways to fill up your time with family this winter, we’ve rounded up a list of things to do during Christmas break, including: decorating holiday cards for your local senior community center, and making fake snow in two easy steps for a fun sensory bin. You can download a free printable version of our complete holiday bucket list here.
Maintaining a happy household is quite often achieved when you make mindfulness a part of your daily routine and prioritizing 1:1 time with yourself even if it’s 5-10 minutes, it always goes a long way. Don’t be afraid to politely decline an invite (or two) because IOO a less stressed mom is a more fun mom. Here are some other ways we’re enhancing our overall well-being this season:
- practicing gratitude and reflecting on all of the positive things in your life
- setting realistic expectations
- limiting screen time, including a personal digital detox for a couple of days
- setting boundaries
- practicing compassion and finding ways to volunteer
- mindful walking outdoors and grounding at the beach or even in your backyard
What are some of your family traditions over the holidays? How do you find moments of peace or do you thrive on a full calendar?
